Course Expectations:

Be respectful at all times to yourself, peers, teacher, guests, the classroom, and classroom materials.

Be on time for class.

Be prepared for class with the required materials every day.

Turn in all homework on the date it is due. If an assignment is not turned in on time, you are responsible for following the late work policy described below.

Take responsibility for all the missed work. Any absent student is responsible for requesting missed work. Students have two (2) days to make up work for every one (1) day missed. If a student is aware of an impending absence, it is his/her responsibility to gather the assignments before he/she leaves.

Follow all school, class, and grade-level expectations.

Cell phones and other electronic devices are not to be used in class unless the teacher gives consent before the class meeting time. If an unauthorized electronic device is used in class, it may be taken and turned in to the office. Students with health or personal concerns that necessitate having a cell phone in class must speak with the teacher before bringing it to class. In addition, iPads may only be used when instructed by the teacher.

Class Participation:

This class is largely participation and discussion-based. Up to 5 participation points are earned most days. Absent students should speak with the teacher to determine how they can make their participation points on the day(s) they were gone.

Turning in Assignments:

Assignments should be turned in to the appropriate location at the front of the classroom. Assignments turned in to alternate locations will not be graded.

Late Work Policy:

As a Senior preparing for “real” life that comes quickly following your high school graduation, you must meet the required deadlines.

However, circumstances may arise that require exceptions to be made. Please become familiar with the following policies:

If a student needs additional time on a daily assignment (typically worth 20 points or less), he/she should discuss the matter with the teacher. If the student conferences with the teacher, one extra day may be given to complete the assignment without incurring a late penalty.

If a student does not speak with the teacher or fails to turn in homework after the one-day grace period described above, the assignment will be accepted one day late for 75% of the earned points. After two days, a student may receive 50% of the earned points. After three days, the student will no longer earn credit for the assignment.

If a student needs additional time on a project or larger assignment (typically worth more than 20 points), he/she should write the teacher a professional email outlining the circumstances of why extra time is needed and date (within one week of the due date) when the assignment will be submitted. The teacher will respond to the email accordingly, explaining the process for turning in the assignment. If the email is sufficient and the student meets the new deadline, he/she will typically be eligible to receive up to full credit on the assignment.

If a student fails to contact the teacher or does not meet the newly determined deadline for projects or larger assignments, he/she will receive no credit for the assignment.

Note: The late work policy follows school days, not class periods.

Grading:

Grading is based on effort and academic achievement. Your grade will reflect your level of dedication to this course.100-92.5 = A             92.4-89.5 = A-89.4-86.5 = B+          86.4-82.5 = B             82.4-79.5 = B-79.4-76.5 = C+          76.4‐72.5 = C         72.4-69.5 = C-69.4-66.5 = D+          66.4-62.5 = D         62.4-59.5 = D-59.4 and below = F

Academic Honesty: We are here to learn and earn grades honestly through hard work and dedication. Cheating, in any form, will not be tolerated. If you cheat, you do not learn the material and set yourself up for failure. Any instance of academic dishonesty will result in a zero for the assignment, as well as possible disciplinary action. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, copying another student’s work, allowing another student to copy your work, receiving answers before a test, using a “cheat sheet” (a written sheet of answers or notes) without expressed consent from the teacher, and plagiarizing (copying another person’s work without acknowledgment of source). If you need further clarification or have any questions regarding academic honesty, please let me know.
